German luxury carmaker Audi today introduced its brand-new entry-level SUV – the Audi Q2 – in India priced at Rs 35 lakh, ex-showroom. The range-topping Technology variant, however, gets a sticker price as high as Rs 48.90 lakh, ex-showroom, as it is a CBU import and makes it all the more expensive for the equipment and package on offer.

Although it is the latest and smallest addition to the brand’s Q range of SUVs and crossovers in India, the Q2 has been on sale in international markets since 2016.

The Q2 aims to flaunt a sporty design with a single-frame grille upfront, striking roofline and an integrated spoiler being the top design elements. However, the SUV tends to look unappealing from the front with the small LED headlamps getting masked by the massive grille, as well as the rear where the small tail lamps don't gel well with the SUV theme.

The crossover is 1548mm tall, 1805mm wide, 4318mm long and has a wheelbase of 2593mm. The large luggage compartment can be expanded from 405 to 1,050 litres.

On the inside, the car gets luxurious seats in leather upholstery, a high ingress and seating position as well as good all-round visibility from the driver's seat. There's a high-resolution 31.24 cm, 1440 x 540-pixel TFT display christened the Audi Virtual Cockpit that displays detailed data and comes with two display modes – Classic and Dynamic. The Q2 also gets an LED ambient lighting package which offers ten colours and the lighting is elegant and subtle and can be varied using the MMI.

In terms of connectivity solutions, Audi's 21cm MMI screen is positioned high on the dashboard for ease of operation and offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The infotainment system comes equipped with a 180W subwoofer and a 10-speaker setup.

The Audi Q2 comes powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder TFSI petrol engine that produces 190bhp and 320Nm of torque. The motor comes paired to a seven-speed DCT and the crossover also offers Audi's Quattro permanent all-wheel drive system for enhanced grip and traction.

In terms of safety, the basic list of six airbags, ABS, EBD, ESC and HSA is present among other active safety features. The Audi Q2 will be offered in a range of ten colour options.

According to Balbir Singh Dhillon, head, Audi India, “Our sixth launch for the year – the Audi Q2 – is another solid step in our endeavour to provide Indian customers with a wider range of choices from the Audi portfolio. We are happy that we could bring it to customers right in the middle of the festive season.”
