Apex Indian auto industry body promotes eco-friendliness on World Environment Day
The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and the Society for Automotive Fitness & Environment (SAFE), an initiative by SIAM, today celebrated World Environment Day across 4,750 dealers across the country.
The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and the Society for Automotive Fitness & Environment (SAFE), an initiative by SIAM, today celebrated World Environment Day across 4,750 dealers across the country.
SIAM-SAFE organised a number of activities related to environment safety and conservation with an aim to spread awareness on environment protection, sustenance and eco-conscious growth. These included free Pollution Under Control (PUC) check-ups and issuing of PUC certificates at automobile dealers, distribution of saplings and eco-awareness rallies.
Speaking on the occasion, Vishnu Mathur, director general, SIAM, said: “The Indian automobile industry has always been committed to its care for the environment and it is our endeavour to enhance public awareness towards key environmental issues. SIAM firmly believes that community education is a key contributor in this direction and all members come together to spread awareness about a cleaner environment among vehicle owners and society as a whole. On the occasion of World Environment Day, we hope this initiative creates an impact with vehicle owners to ensure proper maintenance and also safety of their vehicles.”
Member companies that participated in the initiative included Ashok Leyland, Bajaj Auto, Hero MotoCorp, Honda Cars India, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, Mahindra &Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki India, Mercedes-Benz India, Nissan Motor India, Tata Motors, TVS Motor Co, Ford India, Toyota Kirloskar Motor and Skoda Auto India.
