Ampere rolls out its 50,000th electric scooter

Ampere, the electric scooter brand owned by Greaves Electric Mobility, has rolled out its 50,000th unit at its Ranipet, Tamil Nadu, plant.

Sanjay Behl, CEO and Executive Director, Greaves Electric Mobility, said, “Our EV megasite was developed with the intent of accelerating the ecologically-virtuous cycle that our planet deserves, and it is incredible that we have reached the 50,000 mark.

Greaves Electric Mobility was recently in the news when Abdul Latif Jameel, an independent, family-owned, diversified global investor and operator, announced its commitment to invest $220 million (Rs 1700 crores) in the company. Jameel will initially invest $150 million (Rs 1,160 crores) for a 35.8 percent fully diluted stake making it the second-largest shareholder in Greaves Electric Mobility. The Indian company will use the funds from the investment in new products, associated technologies, brand building and enhance manufacturing capacity.

Behl said increased customer awareness, preference for green mobility and a host of incentives offered by different states enabled the company to hit inflection point for EVs to take off and are optimistic about mass EV adoption in the country. The Ranipet EV manufacturing plant was set up with the goal of disrupting the Indian transportation landscape and creating an affordable ecosystem for clean last-mile mobility in the country, the company said. Earlier this year, the company opened its first Experience Center.
