The first phase of commissioning will see the plant adding 5 million units of battery manufacturing capacity, with a target to add 17 million units with an estimated investment of Rs 700 crore taking the total capacity to 29 million units.
Amara Raja Batteries claims that the plant is India’s largest and most advanced two-wheeler battery plant. It was inaugurated by George R Oliver, chairman and CEO, Johnson Controls. It says the plant will cater to growing markets.
The first phase of the plant which was commissioned will have a capacity of 5 million units, with an ultimate capacity of 17 million units. The company says the estimated investment of Rs 700 crore will help take the total capacity for two-wheeler batteries to 29 million units. The plant will employ 1,300 people at full capacity, and is the most advanced production facility in the country pioneering the use of advanced punched grid making technology for two-wheeler battery manufacturing. The technology ensures best-in-class product performance, higher productivity and improved environmental standards.
George R Oliver, chairman and CEO, Johnson Controls, said, “I am delighted on the occasion our partnership completing 20 successful years. The company says that the plant design is done with keeping in mind carbon emission reduction, harness solar energy with the installed 2.7 MW of roof top solar power which generates 4.5 mn KWh of energy. And the high-speed assembly lines and advanced robotic system will help minimise human intervention making the process highly reliable.
