After registering 16 consecutive months of growth, Volvo Cars’ global sales went down in November 2016 by 0.6 percent. The Swedish carmaker sold 48,755 units in the reported month compared to 49,056 units it sold in November 2015.
On the other hand, the company’s year-to-date sales growth globally amounted to 7.4 percent, resulting in total sales for the first 11 months of the year of 473,528 cars (2015: 441,002).
Sales of the new Volvo XC90 were the main growth driver globally, while the XC60 continues to be the best-selling model overall.
In China, Volvo’s sales increase now amounts to 12.5 percent year-to-date, based on another month of double-digit growth in November. The best-selling models were the locally-produced Volvo XC60 and S60L models.
The United States also continues to report double-digit growth for the year thanks to strong demand across the range. Overall growth for the first 11 months is now 19.6 percent, with 72,597 cars delivered to customers so far this year. The new Volvo XC90 is the best-seller in the US, followed by the XC60.
Sales in Western Europe went down by 4.2 percent in November with sales of 17,702 units. The year-to-date sales went up 5.1 percent with strong demand in several key markets, including Germany and the United Kingdom. The Volvo XC60 was the best-selling model in the region.
The carmaker’s home market, Sweden, meanwhile continued its negative trend with sales down by 20.6% in November 2016 with sales of 6,483 units. (November 2015: 8,164).
Globally, the Volvo XC60 was the best-selling model in the first 11 months of 2016 with 142,105 cars sold (2015: 142,351), followed by the Volvo V40/V40 Cross Country with 89,757 sold cars (93,560). The new XC90 was third with 81,452 cars sold (31,444).
