Nissan has begun selling the zero-emission Nissan Leaf electric car in Latin America's four biggest markets: Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Colombia.
The expansion into Latin America builds on Nissan's position as the global pioneer in electric mobility, with more than 400,000 Leaf cars sold worldwide since the model first went on sale in 2010.
"Latin America's accelerating development and growth require safe, intelligent and sustainable mobility solutions," said Guy Rodriguez, chairman of Nissan Latin America. "The Nissan Leaf will enable us to contribute to a zero-emission future that will improve the lives of our customers."
Nissan began its pre-sale stage in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Colombia at the end of 2018 with a positive response from customers in the region.
"Nissan Leaf, as the world's first large-scale electric production vehicle, has led the way towards a transformation and making the comfort of electric driving reach a greater number of people. Customers in Latin America have been very interested in this change. During the pre-sale period, we have received hundreds of inquiries and have already completed 85 Leaf sales units that will be delivered in the coming weeks,” said Ricardo Flammini, vice-president of Marketing and Sales for Latin America.
The Nissan Leaf offers exciting a lithium-ion battery of 40 kW / h that offers a range of 389km in urban cycle according to WLTP (270km in combined cycle), power of 110 kW (147hp) and a torque of 32.6 kgf.m (320 Nm).
On the safety front, the Leaf has advanced technologies including Intelligent Emergency Braking , Intelligent Around View Monitor , Blind Spot Warning , Intelligent Trace Control , Intelligent Cruise Control , Rear Cross traffic Alert, Intelligent Lane Intervention, Forward Collision Warning , Intelligent Driver Alertness and Intelligent Auto headlights, among others.
Nissan says it plans to expand the sale of the Leaf to Costa Rica, Ecuador, Puerto Rico and Uruguay by the end of this year, with the all-electric car making it to eight markets in the region.
