Automotive major Honda's e compact electric vehicle has won Red Dot: Best of the Best 2020 award for product design in the best product design category, in the internationally renowned Red Dot awards.
Honda e also received recognition in the smart product category, along with CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP. This award ensures the company's commitment to creating products that are designed without compromise.
Speaking about the Honda e, executive creative director, Makoto Iwaki commented: “These prestigious awards place a spotlight on Honda’s visionary and talented designers. As one of the most exceptional examples of contemporary car design in recent years, the Honda e is fully deserving of its ‘Best of the Best’ accolade.”
Honda has a long history of success in the automotive section of the Red Dot awards. The company has won the awards for Honda S2000 in 2001 and Civic in 2006 for Red Dot: Best of the Best and European Accord Tourer in 2008 and Insight in 2009.
Design aspect
The Honda e was first previewed in the Urban EV at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. Through its design aspects, the vehicle reimagines the identity of a small Honda for the next era of urban mobility. It has front and rear LED light combinations and stylish glass charging port cover, clean lines and flush features that optimise aerodynamic efficiency and refinement. The black panels located at the front and rear between the lights which have become defining design motifs of the Honda e.
On the other hand, CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP 2020 model has a new design with minimalist frontal area. It’s aggressively angled side fairings and extended lower fairings and more to create a best-in-class drag coefficient value of 0.270. Honda R&D's digital simulation experts, clay modelers and styling sketch designers worked with a continuous, almost simultaneous feedback loop to create the maximum effect in the shortest possible development time.
