Hitachi showcases EV motors at Tokyo Motor Show

Hitachi showcases EV motors at Tokyo Motor Show

Japan-based Hitachi Automotive Electric Motor Systems, a subsidiary of Hitachi Automotive Systems are showcasing motors for electrified vehicles at the 46th Tokyo Motor Show 2019. It has announced the mass production of the same in Japan at the start of November 2019.

In July 2017, Hitachi Automotive Systems and Honda Motor created a joint venture company to develop, manufacture, and sell motors for the electrified vehicles market, which is expected to grow globally. Since its establishment, the company has been preparing for mass production. The company also opened the Global R&D Center in April 2019 to develop next generation technologies, effective ‘MONOZUKURI’ (manufacturing) technologies, and engineers to enhance development and maintain quality. The company also plans to begin production of motors for electrified vehicles in China in 2020, and the US in 2022.

Hitachi motors for electric vehicles at 2019 Tokyo Motor Show

According to Hitachi, the motor will have a voltage rating of 650 volts, maximum output of 135 kW, maximum torque of 315 Nm and maximum rotation speed of 13,000 rotations per minute.
