General Motors today announced an executive leadership transition in Thailand, effective July 1.
Marcos Purty, managing director of GM Thailand and Chevrolet Sales Thailand, will be promoted to a new manufacturing leadership position in North America. He will be succeeded by Wail A Farghaly, who is currently the managing director of GM Vietnam.
Farghaly joined GM in 1999 and held roles in marketing, planning and sales at GM Egypt, before becoming manager of sales for North Africa and later manager of GM’s African Operations Sales Department. In 2010, he was appointed director of the North Africa Regional Marketing Office at GM Overseas Distribution Corporation, before taking on his current position in Vietnam.
Purty will repatriate to the US to be promoted to a new manufacturing leadership position at Lansing Delta Township in Michigan, which is GM’s newest plant in North America. Purty has been leading GM’s operations in Thailand since 2014.
“Wail is an experienced industry professional with great knowledge of the business, particularly the sales side,” said Stefan Jacoby, GM executive vice-president and president, GM International. “Wail will drive the growth of our operations in Thailand through the launch of exciting new products, including the All-New Chevrolet Colorado unveiled in Bangkok a few days ago.”
Jacoby added, “We appreciate the important role that Marcos played leading the successful transformation of our business in Thailand to focus on our strengths in pickups and SUVs. We congratulate him on his new assignment and wish him well.”
