Ekoenergetyka and the city of Malmo have signed a deal to set up chargers across the city for Volvo's electric buses that would be operational by the end of 2018.

The contract involves OppCharge-based Opportunity Chargers that comes equipped with an inverted pantograph.

The contract involves OppCharge-based Opportunity Chargers that comes equipped with an inverted pantograph.
Poland-based Ekoenergetyka will deploy its chargers in two neighbourhoods of Malmö and Ön, which will receive one charger while the other two will be deployed in the southern suburb of the city of Svågertorp. They will provide quick energy top-ups via top-down pantographs to 13 Volvo buses that will enter into operation by the end of 2018.
Maciej Wojeński, Vice-President of Ekoenergetyka-Polska, commented: “This will be our third charger deployment in Sweden, but first in Malmo. Our clients will get full flexibility when it comes to charging interfaces, shapes of chargers and their power. Our chargers can be integrated with both Combo 2 plugs, bus-mounted pantographs and, as we show with this project, also OppCharge top-down pantographs.”
The charging devices will be connected to an external monitoring system of Ekoenergetyka, gathering data about charging processes in real time, and ensuring smooth operation of the charging process. Interoperability will be assured, as the chargers will follow international charging protocol - ISO 15118 - that defines communication between the chargers and the buses and use the industry-supported OppCharge system for top-down charging.
On top of charging stations, Ekoenergetyka-Polska is also responsible for the civil works and the maintenance of the devices. Malmö is the third city in Sweden to choose Ekoenergetyka’s chargers, following in the footsteps of Vasteras and the northern city of Lulea.
