Chevrolet has announced it will launch an all-new compact midsize family sedan in China under the Cavalier nameplate at the Chengdu Auto Show on September 2.

This marks the brand’s first use of the Cavalier name in China. The Cavalier will complement the recently launched new-generation Cruze, as Chevrolet strengthens its portfolio in China.

The completely new compact sedan is targeted at young families in large and small cities across the country. It will compete in a crucially important segment, the second largest in the passenger vehicle market.

Fuel economy is a top-of-mind consideration for customers in this segment, and the Cavalier is estimated to provide class-leading fuel economy of 5.4 litres/100km from a 1.5-litre DVVT inline four-cylinder engine. Buyers have a choice of a six-speed automatic DSS intelligent transmission or a five-speed manual transmission.

The Cavalier’s distinct profile is enhanced by refined details and expressive lines that embody the brand’s new global design language. It includes Chevrolet's signature dual-port grille in the front and a robust stretched rear-end design, which add to its refinement and dynamism.

The interior of the Cavalier features the carmaker’s dual-cockpit styling, with abundant front-seat headroom and a comfortable back seat. It includes a PM2.5 fine particulate matter air filter. Chevreolet says the simply designed driver-oriented centre console, with an integrated floating 7-inch HD touchscreen, delivers an interactive experience. Users also get Chevrolet's new-generation MyLink infotainment system, which supports Baidu Carlife.
