The Aisin Group, which comprises Aisin Seiki Co, Aisin Takaoka Co, Aisin AW Co, Aisin AW Industries Co, and Aisin Shinwa Co, has announced plans to strengthen its production system for automatic transmissions, mainly in China and Japan.

The Group, which manufactures automatic transmissions for both passenger and commercial vehicles as also manual transmissions, clutches, and flywheels, has projected a rise in production of automatic transmissions to 12.5 million units in 2020 and aims to respond to growing demand in the global market.

To ensure it is ready to meet global demand, the Aisin Group, which has a major share of the global automatic transmission business, is increasing capacity across various plants. The Group has set up a new automatic transmission manufacturing company in Mizunami, Gifu, Japan. This facility, which will have a production capacity of 400,000 units, is slated to commence production in December 2018.

Meanwhile, the assembly line for FWD six-speed automatic transmissions at Tianjin AW Automatic Transmission Co, located in Tianjin, China is to be expanded with production to start in April 2019. The Group also plans to further expand the South Building of the Aisin Seiki Co’s Nishio Die-casting Plant, which was added in August 2017 to increase the production capacity of automatic transmission cases, with production scheduled to start in October 2018.
