Retaining the top spot in the elite Top 10 list of bestselling two-wheelers in India, the popular Honda Activa scooter has once again beaten Hero MotoCorp’s mass commuter motorcycle brand, the Splendor by a healthy margin of over 20,000 units in February 2016.
While the Honda Activa sold a total of 210,028 units last month, Hero’s Splendor recorded sales of 189,314 units.
Interestingly, in the last seven months (August 2015-February 2016), the Honda Activa ranked as the bestselling two-wheeler across the country four times, hinting at deeper penetration of scooters as a preferred choice of commuting in smaller towns and even in rural pockets of the country.
The HF Deluxe and Passion brands from the Hero stable continued to hold third and fourth slots respectively. While the HF Deluxe sold 106,572 units, the Passion went home to 81,656 buyers last month.
Continuing to consolidate sales of its mopeds after entering into newer domestic territories and a new 100cc model, TVS Motor Company’s XL Super ranks fifth in the Top 10 two-wheelers for February 2016. The company’s most affordable commuter saw sales of 66,432 units.

In yet another interesting case of rivalry between Hero MotoCorp and Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI), the Indian company has now beaten its erstwhile Japanese partner in the 125cc executive commuter motorcycle segment.
Honda’s CB Shine, which is understood to be a leader in the 125cc segment, has been outsold by its contemporary rival Hero Glamour which sold 60,883 units in February and held the sixth spot. The Honda CB Shine reported sales of 58,433 units and held the seventh rank.
Another bestselling scooter, this time the 110cc Jupiter from TVS Motor occupied the eighth slot with sales of 47,712 units. TVS’ top-selling scooter was followed by Bajaj Auto’s bestselling Pulsar brand, which accounted for sales of 47,208 units last month.
Marking its entry back into the Top 10, Bajaj Auto’s most affordable 100cc mass commuter bike, the CT100, has reported sales of 42,924 units and occupies the tenth slot. It can be recalled that the company had rolled out an even more affordable variant named CT100B with a price-tag of Rs 30,990 (ex-showroom, Delhi) in February, which is understood to have contributed in the resurgence in the sales of this model.
